A mock-up of a medieval castle, complete with drawbridge, crenellated towers and a basement stuffed with fairground-style sideshows for the kids, Excalibur is usually packed with low-budget tour groups.
The chocolate-brown and gold-toned guest rooms feel subdued and somewhat anonymous by Las Vegas standards. That said, Aria can be a real bargain, especially if you have the time — and weather — to enjoy the fantastic pool complex.
It features a health club and a tropical outdoor pool. While far from cheap, it is on an unusually manageable scale and offers smart, modern rooms in the very thick of things. There's great restaurants and nightlife, too. Even the standard rooms at upscale Strip-giant The Venetian are split-level suites. Each has an antique-style canopied bed atop a raised platform, plus a spacious living room and marble bathroom.
Access to a mind-blowing array of shops and restaurants is also at hand. The ludicrous re-creation of Italy's Grand Canal , complete with gondolas and singing gondoliers, is quintessential Las Vegas, and as such utterly irresistible.
In a nutshell, the Wynn Las Vegas is the Bellagio re-imagined for a younger, hipper and even richer crowd. After testing out a range of hotels, ranging from cheap stays to luxury resorts, here are my suggestions to help you decide where to stay on the Las Vegas Strip, however much you want to spend.
Read more: Visiting Las Vegas on a budget. Las Vegas is a weekend getaway favourite, so if you can avoid Friday and Saturday nights then you can bag a bargain. I stayed a Thursday night at Paris Las Vegas and the same room quadrupled in price for the next night. There are over 30 hotels located on the Las Vegas Strip, but not all Strip locations are created equal. But traffic can make it slow going. Originally the fee was to cover extra services — and some hotels do include extras like airport shuttles, local phone calls or fitness facilities — but now it can be a sneaky way to up the profits.
Some hotels are more upfront about their fees than others, but always double check. So you can pick up some real bargains. I stayed in a standard Paradise Tower room, but you can also upgrade to a bungalow near to the pool. All rooms come with plantation-style shutters and rattan furniture to go with the theme, along with a big flatscreen TV, safe and desk.
The lagoon-style pool is a good place to relax, with waterfalls and whirlpools and surrounded by palm trees with plenty of loungers and cabanas. The hotel has gone all out with the Parisian theme, with their own versions of the Arc de Triomphe and Louvre.
I stayed in a huge corner room, done up in Versailles-era French style, with antique-look dark wood furniture, gold and blue decor and a pink marble bathroom. The rooms are decorated in muted colours in understated, elegant style with Italian furniture.
The Bellagio also has its own designer shopping centre where you can stock up on Armani and Chanel, a spa, art gallery, indoor botanical gardens, nightclub, cocktail bar and a Cirque du Soleil show.
Looking for somewhere to stay on the Las Vegas Strip? Souks and sunsets: Things to do in Essaouira, Morocco. The guests are usually on the younger side of the Strip demographic, with plenty of money to spend on all the great restaurants, cabanas at the club, and bottle service at Marquee Nightclub. With its massive installation of Dale Chihuly blown-glass flowers all over the ceiling and the naturally lit conservatory just beyond, it still feels like a fabulous garden party whenever you walk in.
And now, beyond that garden party: Bellagio has refreshed all 2, guest rooms in its main tower. It not only has great restaurants, but a very good though small art gallery with a special partnership with the Boston MFA, as well as that stunning conservatory.
The Palazzo is the extravagant younger sibling of The Venetian both are part of The Venetian Resort and was planned around the same kind of Renaissance Italian aesthetic. Each of the hotels has its own rotunda entrance; on the Palazzo side, rather than being all gold, there's an amazing crystal sculpture of women that's actually a two-level fountain.
It's both modern and reminiscent of classical sculpture. Not only does it also have the largest standard rooms on the Strip, it still usually clocks in at less money than a room in most other cities. What a tribute to all the fun and wackiness of the area; the place has distinguished itself as an unapologetic, adults-only temple of fun.
It plays to a pretty specific demographic: sports lovers who come for its Stadium Swim pool complex—pool, lounge seats, sports bar, and bungalows all facing a massive, foot-high HD TV that always has a major game playing.
If you want to feel like you're checking into a destination spa, Vdara may be the hotel that comes closest in Las Vegas.
The lobby has soaring ceilings, and the whole hotel—although it's a glass high rise in ultra modern CityCenter—is built to maximize light and bring in natural materials. It's the only completely non-smoking AND non-gaming hotel in Las Vegas, so it feels and smells super-clean. Since opening in , Wynn has remained the high-rolling kingpin of Las Vegas names, partly because of its money-is-no-problem approach to design and services, but also because it attracts the biggest spenders.
There are early 40 designer shops spread throughout three shopping hubs, the newest of which, Wynn Plaza, opened in with a Cipriani restaurant, Watches of Switzerland, Zimmerman, and Kiton among others. Our personal favorite spots is Parasol Down for its fanciful cocktails and views of the newly reimagined Lake of Dreams.
Beneath the glitz, Wynn has a practical side. It has its own solar field, which offsets up to three-quarters of its energy usage, and every restaurant has a vegan or vegetarian menu.
