Jarocho is pissed off for his own stupidity and goes over to Octavio and demands for money. Susana, however, is never sold into the concept of leaving Ramiro and running away. She needs sexual release and Octavio means nothing more to her. Ramiro finds out about Octavio winning at the dog fights and demands a part of the winnings. He threatens to kill Cofi otherwise. Octavio uses his dog fight connections and get Ramiro beaten up pretty bad. Octavio thinks that he is at the top of his game but Susana and Ramiro decide to leave.
This pisses off Octavio, quite obviously. Jarocho comes back with a high stake private dog fight challenge and Octavio agrees. The fight starts Cofi begins to win but Jarocho shoots Cofi. In retaliation, Octavio stabs Jarocho and makes a run for it. Does Jarocho die? This is the opening sequence. Cofi is bleeding out but is not dead. Octavio cuts a red light and smashes into another car. While Octavio ends up being badly hurt, Jorge dies.
Days later, Octavio is recovering. Ramiro decides to loot a bank. A funeral is held for Ramiro. Octavio still feels he has a shot with Susana. The car that Octavio smashes into belongs to a model Valeria. Valeria is having an affair with Daniel who is a successful magazine editor. He leaves his family and moves in with Valeria and her dog Richie. Lost from view, however, is the legacy of possibility that it created. The film showed that it was possible to describe Mexicans as creatures with a dual nature, beyond social strata, privilege, and scarcity, and furthermore made it possible for other filmmakers to tell stories that take place in Mexico, a socially and politically fragmented country, from new angles and perspectives—some of which are still coming to light.
Her film The Good Girls won numerous awards both in and outside Mexico, and is the best portrait of social disparity in recent Mexican cinema, though it is a period piece, set amid the economic crisis. It is told from the point of view of a woman of privilege who has no empathy for others—an assailant from the upper class.
It is impossible, though, to measure the full extent of the influence of Amores perros, which renewed a whole film tradition and, in doing so, also revealed hidden facets of the Mexican national identity.
The scene from the film that stays with me most is one in which a panting dog enters the ring, ready to fight. We see the world as he does. This dog seems poised to tear through the streets of Mexico City—violent, rebellious, and vigorous—capturing the inimitable spirit of the film and its setting.

Valeria cannot control Richie any more than she can control her own life. They are both trapped in their own prisons and neither escapes unscathed. It shows Valeria in a suggestive pose, teasing up her short dress to reveal long elegant legs.
